The concert was one long set - about ninety minutes. Personally, I would have preferred an intermission, but I think the show was designed the way it was for the sake of preserving the star's extremely high energy level. Perhaps it's easier for her to play for an extended period than to take a break and have to crank herself up to do it a second time in one night. Although we gave her a standing ovation, including rhythmic clapping and stomping, she refused an encore. It's been a long time since I've seen that, and it was disappointing, but I certainly forgive her - after all, despite her apparent tirelessness, she's no spring chicken!
The greatest gift of the evening was the passion of this talented performer and the message she communicated from her very essence. She reminded me that the secret to a radiant and inspired life is focus, determination and heart-based commitment. Thank you, Ms. Staples!
